Simplicity Is Not a Trend: What Our Name Actually Means

Two whippets, one black and one white with necks intertwined, symbolizing balance, clarity, and the true meaning of simplicity in brand design - Simplicity Design Agency

Over the last 12 months, I've watched a dozen new businesses pop up with "simplicity" in their name. Most of the new uses miss the point entirely. This post is to set the record straight on what simplicity means to us, why we chose it, and why it’s discipline—not a trend.

Simplicity Is Not Minimalism

The most common mistake: confusing simplicity with empty.

In business naming and design, simplicity is not about removing things until it looks clean. It's about removing things until only what earns its place remains. That is a structural decision, not an aesthetic one.

A simple brand is not a white logo on a white background. A simple brand is one where a Contracting Officer can find your core capability in 8 seconds. Where a GC can explain what you do in one sentence. Where every page answers a buying question.

We wrote this into our site years ago: precision over fluff. Every element earns its place. If it cannot be strategically defended, it is removed. That is simplicity.

What Simplicity Means to Us

When we started Simplicity Design Agency, we were reacting against agency bloat: 80-page decks, six-month timelines, design by committee. We had spent years in NYC fashion and high-stakes corporate work. We saw that the best brands weren't the loudest. They were the clearest.

  1. Structural clarity first. We architect the brand before we design it. Positioning, proof hierarchy, navigation logic. No decoration without function.
  2. Editorial discipline. We say no more than we say yes. To colors, to pages, to features. Not because we can't, but because your buyer doesn't have time.
  3. Operational honesty. Simplicity in business means you do fewer things better. We don't offer 27 services. We offer four disciplines done with rigor: web design, graphic design, strategic branding, and marketing.

This is why we launched our AI Division around "curated automation" in February 2026. AI makes it easy to produce more. We use it to produce better, faster — then edit harder.

A Note on the Name Proliferation

We are flattered that the word resonates. We are also protective of what it stands for.

Simplicity Design Agency is solely owned and operated by me, Breanna Ricci Charles-Hill. We are based in Alexandria, VA. We are a black-owned, female-led studio. We have no parent company, no franchisees, no sister agencies, and no formal association with any other business currently using "simplicity" in its name.

If you see another "Simplicity" in cleaning, coaching, tech, or design, assume we are not affiliated unless you see it explicitly on simplicitydesignagency.com.

We built our reputation over two decades by refusing to blend in. We intend to keep it that way.

Why This Matters for Clients

When you hire a firm named Simplicity, you should know what you're buying. Are you buying "simple = cheap and fast"? Or are you buying "simple = disciplined and clear"?

Our clients — law firms, consultancies, government contractors — don't need cheap. They need legible. They need to win trust in a market that punishes vagueness. That requires work. It requires saying no. It requires structure.

That is the standard we have held since the beginning, long before the word became popular.

"Ask for their definition of simplicity. Ask to see their editing process. Ask what they removed from the last project and why."

If you're evaluating agencies and the name is the same, look past it. Ask for their definition of simplicity. Ask to see their editing process. Ask what they removed from the last project and why.

The answer will tell you everything.
